A large volume of paperwork is never fun. When done in a rush, it's quite taxing. Oh, that reminds me...Anyway, I have applied for a passport. The most amusing aspect of the application was that one is forbidden to smile for the photo.
I'll be leaving the country for the first time ever: work demands that I fly to Southhampton, England, where I will board a ship and immediately return to the americas, by way of the Atlantic Ocean.
Hopefully by the time the ship pulls into New York, the hardware & software that we're installing will be fully functional.
I'll only get a brief glimpse of Southhampton, but it's fun to note that one or two famous maiden voyages began there. At the end of the transatlantic crossing, I might catch a glimpse of a famous French statue that bears the same name as the ship I'll be on.
This assumes, of course, that my passport arrives in time.

Enjoy the trip!
Thanks, Adrian. My passport arrived yesterday. Last night I went out for a few beers before the Neko Case show. I whipped that bad-boy out when I got carded. Never before has a waitress displayed so much interest.
Looks like it could be as useful for gettin' around the block as it is for gettin' around the world.
Who knew.
my wife is getting her passport pics taken after work today. Getting married made hers null.
she looked frumpy in the old one anyways
I had to get mine renewed a few weeks ago. It was 2 mos before we leave, but they told me that I needed to expedite (pay double). The passport arrived in 1 week. Back when I got my old passport you were allowed to smile, but now smiling is not allowed--silly.
Good luck on your trip--sounds like fun.
I had to expedite too, and it took 2-4 days (payed more than double!) The only reason was that there's a flood of applicants right now because of the change in law where you now need a passport to visit mexico and canada. (Or so I'm told.) Had it not been for the glut in the system, I would have had time for the regular application process.
bon voyage! i am wondering why you need to take on a trans-atlantic sea ride _for work_. but i am sure it will be interesting.. broadcast from the ship if u can.. :)
Having never been to England myself I can't wait to read your observations. I could give you advice about the French though. Avoid stepping in the dogshit. I'm sure England is much nicer. Have you been overseas before or is this your first time? CHEERS!
Yes, this will be my first time out of the country, let alone overseas.
Well, as of this writing, I should say that it would have been my first time out of the country. The project plan has been adjusted, and this particular trip has been cancelled.
There may be other travel in the near future, but it would be domestic, since the ship will have already made the crossing by then.
KP: the reason for the travel was that our hardware & software is being installed on the ship. The original plan just so happened to align with the crossing. That would have been sweet.
