When I first read they blow and anvil up into the air, I thought it sounded awful dangerous. I mean how can they be sure it won't blow off into somebody's direction? How did they set it up?
I couldn't get close enough to see how they set it up, but it looked like there were two anvils (one below for a firm foundation) and a tough, squat metal cylinder between them.
The local fire department handles the event and probably knows how safe it is. But apparently accidents do happen. (Read the caption here.)

it goes in the air about 4-6 ft
